Lincoln County Release Meanings
A Lincoln County jail release means the Sheriff has ended that agency's physical custody. It does not always mean the person walked into the community. The custody entry may instead document transport to another county, commitment to the Minnesota Department of Corrections, or a handoff to a federal authority. The actual release or transfer entry is therefore more useful than a missing web result. It identifies the agency that acted and can show when custody changed.
Final discharge is different. A person may leave jail on bond while a case continues, leave prison for supervised release while the sentence continues, or finish local confinement and begin probation. “Time served” means the custodial part ordered by the court has been satisfied. A detainer is a request or authority that can keep the person held for another agency. Each result sends the search to a different source.
Lincoln County Release Paths
The Lincoln County Jail holds people before trial and people serving local terms. Its staff also transport detainees to court. That mix creates several possible outcomes, and the label on the custody record matters more than the fact that the person is no longer at the jail.
| Release type | What it means | Next record to check |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or conditional release | Physical custody ends while court conditions and the criminal case may continue. | Jail release entry and MCRO court order |
| Time served or local term complete | The ordered jail time ends, though probation or another case may remain. | Jail entry and sentencing record |
| Dismissal or acquittal | One case basis may end, but staff must still clear other holds. | Court disposition plus jail exit record |
| MNDOC commitment | County custody closes and state correctional custody begins. | MNDOC Locator after intake |
| Transfer or outside hold | Another jail, state, USMS, or ICE may receive the person. | Receiving agency record |
Lincoln County Release Record Fields
Lincoln County does not publish an online field dictionary. Minnesota law still makes the core arrest and custody facts unusually specific. A focused request should seek existing public arrest data, not ask staff to create a narrative. Ask for fields in the alternative so the Sheriff can identify the responsive jail log or custody entry.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Name and booking number | Connects the release event to the correct booking. |
| Arrest agency and booking time | Identifies who brought the person in and when custody began. |
| Charge, warrant, or legal basis | States the public basis associated with the arrest. |
| Release date and time | Shows when Lincoln County custody actually ended. |
| Release type or legal basis | Separates bond, court order, sentence completion, and other outcomes. |
| Transfer details | Can give the time, basis, and receiving agency when custody changed hands. |
| Court file number | Links the custody event to the related Minnesota case. |
A court order and jail record answer different questions. An order may authorize release. The jail entry shows when identity, property, paperwork, and hold checks were complete. Use both when the distinction has legal importance.
Request Lincoln County Release Records
Send the request to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office at 322 North Wallace Street, P.O. Box 166, Ivanhoe, MN 56142. The office lists 507-694-1664, fax 507-694-1325, and bbushman@lincolncountymn.gov. Ask who currently serves as the responsible data contact for Sheriff records if the county form does not route the request clearly.
- Identify the person and the booking date or other detail that separates similar names.
- Request the existing booking and custody disposition record under the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act.
- Ask for actual release or transfer date, time, legal basis, and receiving agency when public.
- Request inspection first or ask for an itemized estimate before chargeable copies are made.
- If data is withheld, ask for the statute that classifies it as not public.

Inspection of public data is free under Minn. Stat. § 13.03. Permitted copy and retrieval costs may apply, but no Lincoln County per-page or photo fee was verified. Minnesota law calls for an appropriate and prompt response within a reasonable time, not one universal number of business days.
Lincoln County Release Data Law
Minn. Stat. § 13.82 classifies public arrest data at the originating law-enforcement agency. Subdivision 2 includes whether and where a person is held, as well as the date, time, and legal basis for release or transfer and the receiving agency. This is a stronger basis than asking only whether someone “got out.” Subdivision 18 does not force an agency to create or keep data it is not otherwise required to maintain, so the statute does not create a 24-hour or 72-hour web list.
Juvenile data, sealed records, victim information, active investigations, medical data, and security information can have access limits. Chapter 609A expungement generally seals records as the law and order provide; it does not change the historical release date. A missing MCRO result can also reflect search rules, an older file, confidentiality, or a name mismatch. Never infer expungement from silence.
Find Lincoln County Released Inmates
There is no official Lincoln County roster to use as a first stop. Start with the type of custody and work outward. This prevents a state record from being mistaken for a county booking or a transfer from being called community release.
- Search Minnesota VINE for a named county-jail person and read the exact facility and event.
- Call the Sheriff at 507-694-1664 to ask whether custody remains and whether the public entry shows release or transfer.
- Search MCRO by case number for bail, conditions, disposition, sentencing, warrant, or commitment events.
- Use the MNDOC Locator only if an executed state sentence or state supervision is plausible.
- Check BOP, ICE, another county, or the receiving authority when the custody chain points there.
- Request the Sheriff release entry when an online check cannot establish the actual event.
The Lincoln County 24-hour release fallback explains how to check same-day events. For one named person, the chain above supplies a more complete check.
Lincoln County MNDOC Release Search
The MNDOC Locator covers adults committed to the Commissioner of Corrections. It can retain a person after prison release while DOC supervision continues. It does not cover a county-only booking. Search by name or six-digit MNDOC ID, open the detail, and compare its court file number to the Lincoln County case.
| Locator field | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Current Status | Use the exact wording to separate incarceration, supervision, placement, and discharge. |
| Anticipated Release Date | A prospective date, not proof that release occurred. |
| Expiration Date | The sentence endpoint, often later than prison release. |
| Caseworker or supervising agency | The official contact when a released person remains supervised. |
| Offense and court file | Identity checks that tie the DOC record to the right case. |
The official search entrance appears in the MNDOC public viewer.
The screenshot concerns state correctional custody and supervision, not a short Lincoln County Jail stay.
Lincoln County Recent Release Gap
The Sheriff and Administration pages publish no current roster, recent-release view, app, photo feed, update schedule, or online retention promise. That absence is a local fact, not proof that release data does not exist. Ask for the underlying public custody entry. A request for a date range can seek every existing public release or transfer entry in that period without demanding a new summary.
The official Sheriff Administration page illustrates the available navigation.
Use the official page for agency contact, then VINE, MCRO, and a records request for the event itself.
When Lincoln County Releases Finish
Sheriff staff book people both in and out, but the county publishes no standard release hour, weekend schedule, exit door, or property-pickup process. A judge's order does not make the physical exit instant. Jail staff still verify identity and release authority, check holds, complete documents, and return property as allowed.
Minnesota Rule 2911.2550 requires written local-jail release procedures addressing identity, authority, stored property, transportation arrangements, and severe-weather safety. It does not promise transportation or a set time. Call 507-694-1664 before travel and ask whether processing for the named person is complete.
The rule's release safeguards appear in the official Minnesota release-procedure source.
Those safeguards explain why authorization and actual departure can occur at different times.
Lincoln County Court Release Check
The Law Enforcement Center sits directly behind the Lincoln County Courthouse, and jail staff transport detainees to and from court. The close geography makes the court case a natural companion to the custody check, but the two records remain distinct. MCRO may show a bail order, stayed sentence, dismissal, revocation, or commitment. The Sheriff log remains better proof of completed physical processing.
Remote MCRO name search has an important limit: a pending criminal defendant may not be found by defendant name before conviction. Use the case number, citation, attorney search where permitted, wildcard or “Sounds Like” tools, or ask Court Administration. The courthouse at 319 N. Rebecca Street, Ivanhoe, can provide public-terminal access broader than remote MCRO. Its published phone is 507-680-7005.
Remote gaps have several causes. Older documents, especially those from before broad electronic access, may not be downloadable. Access rules, retention, and expungement can also limit what appears. A daily court calendar is only a hearing schedule, and it can change. It does not prove that a hearing occurred or that jail staff completed a release. For a court document used in a legal process, ask Court Administration whether a certified copy is needed.
Correct Lincoln County Release Errors
Lincoln County posts no released-person property or identification handout and no online error-correction form. Preserve the source URL, the time observed, and the exact field that appears wrong. For a county custody entry, contact the Sheriff and request correction or an explanatory public record. For an MNDOC field, send the MNDOC ID and question to co-records.doc@state.mn.us or the facility contact shown in the locator.
Do not overwrite one agency's record with another agency's event. A court order, VINE alert, jail log, and DOC detail can all be accurate while describing different stages. State the source and its time. This keeps a projected date from being repeated as an actual release and keeps a transfer from being described as discharge.
Verify Minnesota Lincoln County Records
Generic searches for “Lincoln County jail” often surface counties in other states. Require at least one Minnesota anchor before attributing a record locally: the official co.lincoln.mn.us context, Ivanhoe, a 507 phone number, a Minnesota court file, or a six-digit MNDOC ID. A matching name and county label are not enough.
The official Lincoln County Sheriff page identifies the local agency and jail. Match its Ivanhoe location and county contact details before relying on a custody result.
Lincoln County Release Facility History
The present Lincoln County Law Enforcement Center was built in 2001 and replaced a jail dating to 1902. It brings the communications center, 15-bed jail, and Sheriff offices into one local complex. Sheriff staff book people in and out, house those serving county terms, and transport detainees to court. These facts identify a small county facility, not a regional or state prison.
The center sits directly behind the Lincoln County Courthouse. That physical link helps explain why court and jail events may occur close together, but it does not merge their records. MCRO can show the judicial action. The Sheriff custody entry is the source for completed release or transfer from the jail.
Lincoln County Post-Release Supervision
Minnesota ordinarily calls the community portion of a determinate prison sentence supervised release. Probation is court ordered, often with a stayed sentence or after local custody. “Parole” chiefly remains relevant to life and older indeterminate sentences. There is no open statewide S3 probation roster.
Verify supervision with the MNDOC Locator when it displays a status and caseworker, the sentencing order in MCRO, and the official supervising office. A warrant, absconding status, revocation, or return to custody changes the description. The Lincoln County probation and parole page separates those paths and explains Board and Hearings and Release Unit records.
Lincoln County Release Notification Routes
Minnesota VINE covers county jails and can send phone, email, text, or in-app custody-change alerts. It is not a permanent certificate. Read whether the event is release, transfer, escape, or death, then confirm exact time and type with the jail. Minnesota Haven is the separate MNDOC notification system for prison and community-supervision cases.
Use the BOP Locator when federal commitment is plausible. It can retain former federal prisoners and show a past release date, while “not in BOP custody” does not rule out another custodian. ICE's ODLS can show current detainees and people released from ICE custody within its stated recent window. Lincoln County has no identified BOP prison or ICE detention contract, so both are conditional routes, not default explanations.
USMS custody fills another narrow gap during a federal criminal case. The Marshals do not provide a broad former-detainee roster like the BOP Locator. Use the federal docket and the appropriate records route for that stage, then use BOP only after federal commitment or designation is supported.
Lincoln County Custody Source Comparison
Match the source to the custodian. A current status tool answers a different question from a historical release record.
| System | Best use | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Lincoln County Sheriff | Actual county-jail release or transfer entry | No official online roster or release feed |
| Minnesota VINE | County-jail custody change and alerts | Not the MNDOC prison notification system |
| MCRO | Court authority, disposition, and sentence | An order is not proof of completed jail exit |
| MNDOC Locator | State incarceration, anticipated date, supervision | Not a county booking archive |
| BOP or ICE locator | Matching federal custody chain | Does not prove Lincoln County release by itself |
Lincoln County Release Facilities
The Lincoln County Law Enforcement Center / Lincoln County Jail is the local booking and confinement site. Minnesota state correctional facilities receive people committed to the Commissioner, though no state prison is in Lincoln County. Community Corrections and MNDOC agents supervise qualifying people after release. Federal BOP institutions and the ICE detention network apply only when the case and transfer record establish those custody paths.
